Tax Manager

Startup tax Remote · United States Team · Tax Full-time

We combine deep technical expertise with modern tools to make tax less painful and more valuable. Clients come to us when they've outgrown basic compliance and need advisors who can navigate multi-state taxation, R&D credits, international issues, fundraising, and acquisitions. You'll work directly with founders and help shape how the firm operates.

What you'll do

  • Review complex federal and state tax returns for startup and technology companies.
  • Advise founders and finance teams on tax planning, compliance, and technical issues.
  • Research challenging tax questions and develop practical, well-supported conclusions.
  • Lead client relationships as a trusted advisor year-round — not just during filing season.
  • Mentor and review the work of tax associates.
  • Improve our processes, templates, and internal knowledge base.
  • Help build AI-enabled workflows that free the team to spend more time advising.
  • Work with the founders to expand our advisory services and improve the client experience.

Who we're looking for

  • An active CPA license.
  • 7+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Extensive experience preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns.
  • Comfort with multi-state taxation and complex business structures.
  • Experience with venture-backed startups, technology companies, or high-growth businesses.
  • The ability to research technical issues independently and communicate conclusions clearly.
  • A genuine interest in mentoring and raising the quality of the team's work.
  • Natural curiosity — you improve systems rather than just follow them.
  • Comfort with technology and enthusiasm for bringing AI into tax workflows.
